Pure Storage has created a seismic shift in the All Flash Array (AFA) market. They recently launched the new FlashArray//m line that improves upon their already proven, staggeringly high-performing arrays and combines that with the benefits of a 10+ year ownership model. Their entry-level //m10 model (for organizations with 10-25TB flash requirements) can be upgraded and expanded all the way to their flagship //m70 model (400+ TB). Upgrades and expansions can be done in place with no downtime, no disruption, and more importantly, NO MIGRATIONS. Maintenance costs are flat for 10+ years. Controllers are automatically upgraded to the latest version of processors within the product line every 3 years as long as the array is under maintenance. Not only does this protect your asset/investment but it also means the asset actually improves over time.
To say this is disruptive to the industry is an understatement. Vendors have become accustomed to having their customers buy on a 3 to 5 year cycle. They play the old game of hiking up maintenance after that initial term and painting their customers into a corner. They essentially hold a gun to their customer’s head and tell them they might as well buy new because maintenance costs are too prohibitive to keep their existing hardware. This has been a pet peeve of mine for years. I don’t feel 3 year old technology is throw-away, and I absolutely don’t want to perform a time-consuming, disruptive, risky migration somewhere between my second and third year of ownership. Pure completely destroys this consumption model.
Pure also has the highest rankings of customer experience and loyalty in the industry (according to Net Promoter Scoring).
Customers specifically pointed to performance, reliability, ease-of-use, and simplicity for their high quality experience. Why should running these arrays take so much effort and time? As an administrator I would love to get some of that time back!
Pure is simply the best, and most compelling general purpose All Flash Array on the market and you get it at a fraction of the cost of the other enterprise-class AFAs.
